If they let you go, that usually means you were fired. aka terminated. A lay off is when there is a shortage of work or the term of employment is done and they simply don't have work for you.

I'm a little lost. did they let you go and then allow you to work a few more shifts?

You only clocked out because they "let you go", which sounds like you were terminated and then left.

The technology may not be 100% accurate but, with the help of human eye and human decisions it would definitely be better than just biased umpiring.
